The Gujarat Maritime Board on March 18, 2025, issued an amendment to the Ship Recycling Regulations, 2015.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Sub Clause no. (viii), (xv) and (xvi) to Clause no. 3.3.5 are amended and Sub Clause no. (xvii), shall be added to Clause no. 3.3.5 as under:
o viii. Under these provisions, after merging the plots, the total width of the merged plot shall remain limited to 300 meters.
o xv. Unused plot may be given to willing adjoining plot holder/existing ship recycler on yearly basis as per standard terms and conditions.
o xvi. If the plot earmarked for SC/ST remain unused, they may also be given for use on yearly basis to the adjoining plot holder/existing ship recycler as per (xv) above. However, GMB should continue its earnest efforts to give permission of the reserved plots to the eligible persons.
o xvii. Priority may be given to adjoining plot holder while giving the plot under above sub Clause no. (xv) and (xvi).
• The first para of Clause no. 9.4 of the Chapter 9 shall be substituted by following para: - “9.4 The permission holder shall deposit the Bank Guarantee/Cheque/Demand Draft equivalent to recycling charge (i.e. Rs. 135/- per LDT) of minimum Light Displacement Tonnage (LDT) at the beginning of each block of five year period, which will be gradually adjusted as income to GMB on recycling of ship(s).”
